Author: AnnetteCode Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2273.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are a great numbers of some of these names in Tipperary. www.eircomphonebook.ie 3 Roach, 53 Roche, and 11 Corrigan, 58 Crowes. While waiting for contacts you might want to do a bit of research. If want to try writing letters I would go for the 11 Corrigan's first. Then chose perhaps a 1/2 doz. Roche's. You may find a bit of going back and forth between the two spellings of Roache/Roche even if they have the same parents, spellings were flexible in the 1800's. If these people stayed in Ireland you may find the www.familysearch.org 2/09 PILOT program helpful as it gives death records and dates of birth based on age at death up to the 1950's. It can help with those who emmigrated as well having some passenger records and the US 1880,UK, and Canada Census. The main page has some records of births with parents names depending on dates. PILOT is under 'search records' on the main page, drop down menu. eg:There were 113 Bridgets, 174 Mary's Bridget Roche born 1871 Film No. 101048, Vol. 13 Pg. 680 Tipperary Registration District Mary Roche born 1871 Film No. 101048, Vol.13, Pg. 680 Tipperary Registration District Bridget Roach born 1871 Film No. 101048 Vol. 18 Pg.473 Don't just go by spellings, I would imagine all the children would be Tipperary Registration District which should help choose the right ones. These films can be seen at any Latter Day Saints Heritage Centre, phone to make sure film is available or needs to be ordered. I have a set of CD's of the LDS Civil Registrations from 1864-1875 and I will see which children are there. These civil records would also be available at the General Registry Office in Dublin www.groireland.ie On a bmd website for Tipperary S., There was a 1871 record for Mary Roche only one, same for a David Peter Roche also the following Roache: Patrick 1864, Honoria 1867, Edmond 1868, Michael 1869, Roche: Bridget 1871 Mary 1871 and James 1870. On the website www.from-ireland.net has an insite search plus there are a number of birth, marriages and deaths listed and checkable for the Registration Districts of Borrisokane, Callan, Carrick-on-Suir, Cashel, Clogheen, Clonmel, Nenagh, Parsonstown, Thurles, Tipperary. These usually followed the boundaries of the Poor Law Unions. The Poor Law Union for the townland of EMLY and Parish of Emly was Tipperary so you could start there, however, I didn't find any on Tipperary. The Griffith Valuations which you probably already have shows how many of each of your names are attached to rental properties of the time. You an find these at www.failteromhat.com ( directories)or www.askaboutireland.com ( property descriptions) Parish records necessary for births before 1864, both RC and Protestant at the National Library in Dublin (LDS microfilm these) up to 1890, RC after that date in local custody, Protestant to 1899 at the Church of Ireland, Representative Library in Dublin, after that date in local custody. All need to be searched in person. www.censusfinder.com United Kingdom Ireland County www.igp-web.com County Annette Code 'genealogy for fun' Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
