I would estimate his date of birth as 1845 but possibly younger. I found many Edward Farrell's in the Ellis Is. records but couldn't pin point any from Kildare. There is a database for Kildare on line with birth records and there are a number of Edward Farrell's of about the right date: 1841, 2x1840;1844; 2 x 1847, a record would give the parents names including mother's maiden name and place of birth. The Civil Registration District given would indicate the area he was from, you could then look to www.from-ireland.net for what places are contained in a particular Registration District.
