Author: AnnetteCode Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2299.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: No relation but will give you some websites to look at: First question I have is do you know WHEN James Burns moved to the UK. Once I know that I will know if it is worth looking further. In 1853 a Valuation called Griffiths Valuations took place in Kildare. This is used as a census substitute for this era, a similar census substitute is the Tithe's of the 1820's but few of them on line.www.askaboutireland.ie and www.failteromhat.com There are 4 James Burns as tenants in 1853, in three Parish's. Ballysax, Kilmege, and Ladytown. There are 49 Griffith Valuation for the name Dan Burn's but none in the 1853 Valuation for Kildare. So either Dan has died or emigrated. I have the 1841 and the 1871 UK census that identifies Irish born persons. There were 40 James Burns around age 20 out of a total of 40 in 1841 and a total of 236 in 1871. Dan 16 - 1841 and 17 in 1871 Census. I haven't looked closely at these until I know when he moved to Lancashire. In a birth, marriage tc. data base for Kildare, there was no James Burn born 1821, one in 1825, and one marriage 1826. However for Daniel Burn's marriages 1821 and 1830. Possibly Dan married in 1821 and James was born then but the records are perhaps not available. Lots of damage to Irish records over the year. In the www.eircomphonebook.ie has only 20 Burn's in Kildare, if we knew what Parish or area to look in you could write letters to the Burns. If it was me I would send to all 20 as stamps are inexpensive genealogy. No postal codes are required outside Dublin and the address in the eircomphone book are sufficient for delivery. I once sent 25 letters and got 1 reply and a different time 12 letters and two replies. You just need to put in a letter all you know. Although the name James is/was very common, Daniel not so much. Another questions is if the family were Catholic or Protestant as the spelling of Burns usually meant anglo-irish rather than Catholic Irish. This also makes a difference in where records were and are kept in Ireland. Annette Code 'genealogy for fun' Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
