I have a CD with Civil Registration from 1864-1875 which should have the birth of some of these children, it does identify the parents names and place of birth. Depends on who fits within the dates. In the meantime similar information can be found on the website www.familysearch.org which has the US 1880 census which maybe a bit early. The new 2/09 PILOT is found under 'search records', these are only microfilm numbers which give a registration district and no parents names. So you may want to wait till I can identify the Registration District. There are also passenger ships records if they apply on this website as well as US Census's. I will get back to you however, if I don't within a few days don't hesitate to remind me, you can contact me by replying through posting a reminder or by contacting me directly at my email address codeannette@yahoo.ca and put Mitchell's-Civil Registrations in the subject. Author: AnnetteCode Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2278.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You probably have this already. I could not find a specific building called the Hermitage, there is an estate - not in the old sense but what might be called a subdivision elsewhere of new homes. This may have been on the lands of an old Hermitage. I did see a reference to a Hermitage in Kildare that appeared on Ordenance surveys of 1836-1846 in the Town Carnalway. There are references in the National Inventory, www.buildingsofireland.ie It could be in ruins now and still be in an inventory of historical places. The history is that Castle Dermot, Kildare can trace it origins to the hermitage of the 19C St. Diamada and a Franciscan Friary 16C. the Patron Saint, St. Conleth a metal worker had a 'hermitage' and is now buried by the alter in the Church of Ireland cathedral. The modern though of a hermitage is a religious retreat - a type of monastary but in the past was more commonly known to mean a settlement for a group of people. There are many advertisements for homes in The Hermitage. You could try emailing one of the estate agents - as in real estate agent and see if the site that has been built on was the site of a church at one time and if they know the history. You possibily could find more information about the site in the Griffiths Valuation of the 1850's as she married in 1848 certainly her father would have had property. If you use the www.askaboutireland.com website it comes with property descriptions. I have a program that shows each person, type of property, schools, churches etc. in a Townland. I don't think the above website is that detailed. You can contact me with the name of your gr.gr.grandmother and I can see what I can find for you. Please contact me at my home email address codeannette@yahoo.ca with Hermitage in the subject line. I would estimate his date of birth as 1845 but possibly younger. I found many Edward Farrell's in the Ellis Is. records but couldn't pin point any from Kildare. There is a database for Kildare on line with birth records and there are a number of Edward Farrell's of about the right date: 1841, 2x1840;1844; 2 x 1847, a record would give the parents names including mother's maiden name and place of birth. Contact me by email at codeannette@yahoo.ca for the website address. www.familysearch.org (1880 US Census) and the PILOT found under search records maybe of help. The Civil Registration District given would indicate the area he was from, you could then look to www.from-ireland.net for what places are contained in a particular Registration District. This should help find Edward Farrell's family. Annette Code 'genealogy for fun' Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I first looked to the census substitutes for Ireland. Griffiths Valuation 1853. The Tithe's were done in 1824 but know of no complete records. I found 227 Griffith Records for Mitchell, however, for some odd reason a bmd data base included the name MOORE in their reporting methods. There were commonalities between Mitchell's, Orford, and as expected Ryan's and Byrne. I found no David Mitchell except for 1870 nothing earlier, doesn't mean there wasn't any. The most common Parish they had in common was Kildrought Parish, Celbridge Townland, and Parish of Rathangan, but not a common Townland. The Parish church is where most people probably met unless they were Townies. You can find the Griffiths at www.failteromhat.com and www.askaboutireland.com I just going to give a few eg. 1846 John Mitchell was listed as a Miller, Leixlip Kildare Patrick and John Property #29, Kildrought, Celbridge house&garden 0Acres0Roods0perches (old english measurement) James Mitchell, Rathangan #3a house, office, land 2.2.35 Jas. & Thomas Mitchell, Rathangan #5a house, off, land 31. The 1911 Census shows a Luke Kelly, widower in the grocery business, living in Stanhope Place, Athy East Urban. He is 62 years old which might indicate that he is the Luke you were looking for.
