Author: doreenhayes46 Surnames: COONEY Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2281.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Gerry. I have now received the mar.cert., for Michael Cooney and Margaret Riley. Michael and Margaret were both 20 years old when they married on 4th August 1860 at St. Cuthberts Catholic Church in Durham, England. Michael's father was John Cooney, deceased, a Labourer. Margaret's father was John Riley, deceased, a Labourer. The witnesses were Elizabeth and William Hetherington. Michael was a Coal Miner and he and Margaret were living at Lead Gate at the time of their marriage. It is possible that Michael worked at the nearby Eden Colliery, as, possibly, did their sons!! I think it is unlikely that I will be able to go any further back with this research due to the destruction of the Irish Records. Many thanks. His father's name on his Marriage certificate in that same year is given as John. I have found only one Edgeworth family in Kildare, the father's name is John but there is no Denis. Edgeworth Baptisms between 1959 and 1865 in Kildare are for Gerry, Michael, Mary and Christy.Do any of these names mean anything to you? I am wondering if Denis used a different name to his baptismal name. According to family folklore he left home for England in his early teens and never went back.He was a jockey and by 1901 was a Stud Groom Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Dourley maybe a later spelling. In 1850's Griffiths Valuation of Land was done throughout Ieland and serves as a good census substitute. I found a spellings of Darley and also Doorley. www.failteromhat.com or www.askaboutireland.com Darley's were 3 x William, 1 Martin ......................................................... Doorley 5 Michaels and 1 John John Doorley, Cloncurry Parish, Drinnanstown N.Towland, renting property 2Bc a house from John McEvoy No Sullivans in any of the three Parishes. www.familysearch.org's PILOT found under 'search records' has 74 Doorley's these are some eg. of what you will find John Doorley died Jan-March 1893, Nash Registration District he was aged 66 so birth year estimated at 1827 *which would make it unliked for this person to have a child in 1833. John Doorley died 1879 age 81 yr. est. birth 1798 #101589 vol.3 Pg.349 Athy Registration District Any Peter's seemed to start in the 1870's. other resources for searching are: www.censusfinder.com United Kingdom Ireland Kildare www.igp-web.com Kildare If you can find the Tithe records of the 1820's you may find where they resided they are kept at the National Archives in Dublin if you can't find them online. This could be the one you are looking for based on the birth of his eldest son. I don't know if you are familiar with FreeBMD but if not simply log on and search weddings for Michael Cooney either using the date or the reference given. Once you get the page up you will see the names of all four people on the page. It might be a coincidence but there is a margaret there. This Margaret Riley might just be who you are looking for. Author: AnnetteCode Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/708.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking through an index of births/baptism I found 9 Bridget's born in 1862, and 6 Mary's to a father Thomas The county they had in common was Westmeath that was before I read Co. Kildare in particular. I had estimated the father's birth years as 1840 or-. Rather than 1834 which makes them about 26 when they had Mary, the average age for marriage was 20-25.There is no record of a Thomas McDermott born in Kildare but two Thomas McDermott in Griffith Valuations of 1850's. One Mary Brien and 1 Mary Bryan (you can asssume the O')www.failteromhat.com & www.askaboutireland.com have the Griffith Valuation. I usually give www.censusfinder.com as a good resourse but Co.Kildare has little information - same as www.igp-web.com I checked the 1871 Census but only Ireland given as you must know. Suncroft, Kildare was/is in the Parish of Kilmeage. I have been told marriages took place in the bride's parish church. However, a re-check of Griffith Valuations shows no O'Brien in Parish of Kilmeage as I would of expected as the Parish Church would be where most people met unless they were townies. www.familysearch.org has a record of a Thomas McDermott spouse Mary 1844/1845 but no other details and the UK 1881 Census but the PILOT could be helpful in finding bmd's.The pilot is found under 'search records' top left main page. There is a bmd database online but I am not permitted to put on this message board. You can contact me at codeannette@yahoo.com with database-Kildare in the subject. Wished I could do more. You might try writing to the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin, they are on line. The National Library in Dublin has records to 1890 I believe for both Catholic and Protestant. These are the records on the LDS familysearch.org. and its PILOT. Annette Code 'genealogy for fun' Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
