The marriage certificates say born 1880 which then makes sense. Both have father's Patrick. The reason I ask is that the names Connolly and Doyle are both very common so it is hard to differentiate without good information. I have a set of CD's from the Latter Day Saint's from 1864-1875 but the letter "C" disc no longer works. I did find that although you mention Crookstown Parish Church. Calverstown is in the Parish of Davidstown. I have been told that the marriages usually took place in the brides church? There are 276 Doyle's in County Kildare in 1850's (probably father's father would of farmed these) 15 in the Parish of Davidstown, Calverstown Townland. Eg: John Doyle Parish of Davidstown, Calverstown townland, tenant of Robert Borrowes property number 12 A house, office land 23Acres.1.10 and 12B land 1.3.15 see www.failteromhat.com and/or www.askaboutireland.ie This Parish was in the Poor Law Union of Athy, and the Civil Registrations followed the boundaries of the Poor Law Unions. www.familysearch.org PILOT program found under search records top left corner: These records go up to the 1950's. The PILOT is located under search records top left of main page: sometimes you just put in the name and Ireland rather than filling in all information this was you get US Census, passenger lists as well as the bmd's. It can also be used for Australia as well. These are some examples: Sophia Mary Pidgeon birth estimate 1862 based on age at death 1862, aged 12. The Registration District is Naas which covers areas of Kildare or Wicklow Mary born 1871 and died 1871 Celbridge Registration District covers areas of Dublin/Kildare and Meath Andrew born 1864 died 1864 Celbridge Registration District Counties same. Note the Registration district were based on the Poor Law Union areas, and the record below for William Pidgeon was in the Poor Law Union of Celbridge. For descriptions of these divisions see www.from-ireland.net Ireland was divided into Diocese, Barony's, Civil Parishes, Civil Registrations, Poor Law Unions, Parish's had Townland's the smallest and oldest area. from-ireland also have civil registrations for 1864. There is also a gravestone page etc. Griffith Valuations of 1853 shows Pidgeon's all told 39, mostly Dublin, 2 Cavan, 4 Armagh.Although it is later than the dats you give it indicates what families were still living in the 1850's. www.failteromhat.com and www.askaboutireland.ie William Pidgeon tenant of Samuel Jones, Killadoon Parish, Crippaun Property 2. house office and land 110A acres (pretty significant for the day) William Keegan, Parish of Killadoon, Ballymakealy Upper Townland sub-letting from David White (who let from Wm.Spelman)property 1e house and garden Found no McMahon/Mahony or Quinn in this parish There is also a data base of bmd's on line where you can look people up by name and get a year of birth for which you can get a copy. You would need to try all the options as just because you know now a marriage that took place in Co. Kildare it could be recorded in a different County. I cannot put the name of this resource on the message board due to rootsweb policy but if you want to look it up you can contact me via regular email codeannette@yahoo.ca but you have to keep in mind a great deal of Ireland's records no longer exist or are damaged back around the late 1700-'s and early 1800's. Also anything after 1864 becomes a civil registration for both RC and Protestant by law. The records for these would be at the General Registry Office in Dublin City. www.groireland.ie The only guaranteed way of matching up siblings are through the Parish records where the parents names are recorded. I looked for Church of Ireland records of marriage which were recorded from 1845 but NONE recorded. There are 3 births in Kildare births between 1864-1875 but the parents would of been born in the 1840's. Still not early enough for your family. RC bmd's were not required before 1864 to register births other than in parish/church records. It is near Carbury, in the extreme west of Kildare. There was a record of my ancestor's wedding on the amazing website of Irish records: http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com. Through the same site, I have now traced the female line back another three generations. The male line (Keaveny) is just too hard - I found a few parish records at Rhode, but as records only start in 1820, I am stuffed beyond that. None of Elizabeth's family are listed on the 1851 UK Census, so can only assume that they arrived post-Census. Patrick died 19 May, 1898, aged 74 years, and was buried at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery, Sydney. His death registration shows parents as "Unknown". Patrick's son, also Patrick, married in 1886, had the first few children in Sydney and then, in the late 1890's, took the family to Western Australia, where more children were born. It appears Patrick was mining - the birth of one of the children was registered at Kalgoolie, another at Leonora. The family returned to Sydney c.1914. On the Western Australia Postal Directory I have picked up a Patrick Purcell and a Peter Purcell both listed for a time living very near Kalgoolie. I have no idea if this is my Patrick or not, but very curious. The last child born to young Patrick and Catherine was named Daniel Peter. The names are not used by any other members of the family - and this is a family of three brothers, two sisters, and their three first cousins who stuck to the same small pool of forenames for at least two generations. Might just have to bite the bullet and buy the UK marriage cert in the hope that the name of elder Patrick's father is on it. Shame they don't have the mother's name though. Many thanks for your suggestions. I think I need to find a parent's name first. Cheers Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The next census I have that identifies Irish persons is 1871 but already gone by then. However, there are census, Tipperary addresses, cemetary inscriptions and all sorts on the PILOT. www.brsgenealogy.com has most of the Irish Counties. It is free to join with a passworth then 5Euro per record. Which right now is $7.46 Auz. Once you get to your county, the top line gives birth search where you can include a father's name, sources give you what records still exist and where, and samples what you get for your money. The information I have on Patrick is confined to the shipping document (he came here as an Assisted Immigrant) and his burial record. It's the burial record on which I am basing his approximate birth year. I had previously looked for Patrick and his wife and her family (Hempfield/Hemfrey/Henfil/Enfield - they've been a bit of a challenge!)on the 1851 Census. Couldn't find any of them, so presume they went to Sheffield after that Census. They married Jan-Mar, 1856 Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding - Vol.9c, Page 257 - Recorded as Purcal & Hemfit/Henifit, so not long before embarking for Australia. The reason I am particularly interested in any siblings of Patrick is because his son, also Patrick, and his wife and young kids went from Sydney to Western Australia in the late 1890's. Picked them up in a small mining community with a Peter Purcell. A son born during their time in WA was named Daniel Peter - very unusual names for this family. I'm wondering if Patrick and Peter may have been related. WA was not terribly fussy about recording parents' names on birth and death registrations so no way of tracking Peter's family. Irish records are so sparse, I think my only chance with tracking down my relatives is to find someone else who is researching them. Or wait until I get to "the other side". Some day, some way.
