I know that her parents (Barnaby Molloy and Mary Reed who was born in 1788 were married in 1810 in Lusk, Co Dublin. Catharine married Samuel Fox sometime before 1844, I think in Dublin. Author: AnnetteCode Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2286.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I can't locate my map book at the moment but you must have one if you are going to Wexford. I looked up Calverstown in wkipedia and found that it is a small village 6K or 4 M. south of Kilcullen, 16km from Athy, Kildare, Naas, and Newbridge. The name Carrighill Upper seems to have lots of new development as if you google Calverstown you get the real estate listings first. If you go to www.eircomphonebook.ie and you will see 59 O'Toole', and 283 Doyle's On the left side is a breakdown of the area's and with your map you could pick O'Toole's 16 Naas, Doyle's 283 (63 Naas, 27 Newbridge, 36 Athy)who live in the area, and send them a heads up letter -or pick a few from the closest areas and do the same. You would be surprised how many people still live in the same areas. I had a woman from Crete phone the ones I sent her (rather than a letter) and within two calls hit the right ones. I prefer a letter explaining who you are looking for and what you know then if you get no answers before you go you can phone people once in Kildare. No postal codes required outside Dublin. Newspapers, I don't live in Ireland so I would just google, www.onlinenewspapers.com, www.Irish Independent.ie I liked to read the Irish Times but I would look for the small local paper. (This is interesting a google book from the Journal of the Royal Society of antiquaries, "Two bronze age celts found in Calverstown". www.kildare.ie/heritage/history/genealogy has a directory might give you something. www.leinsterleader.ie (either an ad or letter to the editor) www.kildare-nationalist.ie www.countykildare.com www.countycouncilkildare.ie (email: secretar@hildarecoco.ie emails: kildarehistory@gmail.com County Archives: localhistory@kildarecoco.ie Local Studies: kildaregenealogy@kildarecoco.ie.ie Co. Kildare Federation of local history groups with phone numbers for each area or: kildarehistory@gmail.com That's about the best I can do from here in Canada Annette Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Unfortunately I know nothing about Bridget Deegan at all. I got a transcribed copy of her marriage to Owen from Kildare Genealogy, but for both it says 'parents unknown'so whether they genuinely were unknown or whether they were just unreadable I don't know - they can't not have had parents! ;) Like you say, it's not an uncommon name at all. I think what I'm going to do is to send off to the GRO in Ireland for copies of William's Birth cert and for Owen and Bridget's marriage certificate now I know dates to see if they can shed any light! Thank you for the info re sponsors too, I thought it was probably godparents, but wasn't sure. Thank you so much for getting back to me again - I really appreciate your time on this :) With kind regards Kathryn Dwyer Bolton PS - You don't go on at all! x Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Did you notice the sponsor for William was Catherine Wyer? Owen's sister, maybe. Do you know anything about Bridget Deegan? Her father's first name or mother's name. Deegan seems to be a common last name. I think the townland Boston as the priest wrote it is Bostoncommon, near Feighcullen. The priest sometimes would review the baptism of a person getting married and put a star * in front of their names. Ellen, John and James had these marks. Checked it out, no luck in this parish, but the parish registers only go up to 1880. I'm going on and on. What can I say but a massive 'thank you' to you for taking the time and trouble to do this for me. I am going to thoroughly investigate these names and check as much out as possible. You may well just have solved a mystery that's eluded me for 5 years! William Dwyer was my Great Great Grandfather and he had a daughter called Catherine, so that would all tie up neatly. Interestingly they only started to use the name 'Dwyer' when they came to Wigan, I don't honestly know whether the family name really is Wyre, Wyer, Dwyer or any other variation! Thank you so much for your help and your efforts, I so very much appreciate it. When it says someone is a 'spons.' does that mean sponsor? And if so what does that mean - is it like a Godparent? Thank you again! Kind regards Kathryn Dwyer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
