    1. [IRL-KILDARE] Farrell of Kildare
    2. Kathleen Daly
    3. I have a connection with Farrell of Kildare in that my Great Great Grandfather Michael Keenan of Ballysax Co. Kildare married either a Catherine or a Margaret Farrell from Co. Kildare. They moved to Cork in the late 1840/early 1850s and I have been unable to trace either of them prior to that. Would love to find a connection

I am trying to determine the paternity of my great grandfather, or at least his family. It could be a Dearing or possibly a Lynch. I finally got my uncle's DNA results back. He is in the haplo group I2b1 of what is now scandanavia. Do I remember right that you had your dna done? Is your Dearing line on your paternal side? Author: parsleyrabbit Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2314/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am stuck already and have only gotten to my Great Grandfather William Cooper born 20/2/1855 in Newbridge Ireland. He married Annie Buglass in London and had several children by her. William's occupation was first as either a sergeant or constable for the Metropolitan Police in London (expensive to look) and as a Ranger for the Canal Authority London. I have tried to trace a service record through the Royal Irish Constabulary but have found nothing. I am pretty sure his father was called Charles and his mother called Bridget and that he had a brother also called Charles but need this all confirmed to move on. Author: helenroberts93 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2313.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Yes I am sure he was form Kildare, its something my nana always told my mum and my mum remembers meeting grandads brother Jack in Manchester in the early 1950s (he lived there then)and he had said he was from Kildare. Just today I have found a birth record for Newbridge in Kildare for a Francis Monaghan born 1st April 1899 to father John Monaghan and mother Mary Farrell. The informant on the birth was Bridget Monaghan, whom I doubt would have been his sister as she was only 4 when he was born so could have been his grandmother. The mother Mary died in 1906 so he may not have remembered her and always thought of Bridget as his mother. Everything matches, the date of birth, name of father, names of siblings and the fact they were all but one older than him, its only the mothers name that doesn't tally but we have only what he told my nana about Bridget being his mother to go on. I cannot find a Francis Kelly anywhere in Kildare or widespread counties thats would match his date! of birth so I do think I have found the right person, but like you say I need to look into the marriage to my nana, as if he was a Monaghan then why change the name to Kelly, but did he do this legally. His brother Jack was also going by the name of Kelly but perhaps the other siblings stayed in Ireland as Monaghans. Any further advise you could give would be great. many thanks Helen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello all I may have found my Patrick Dowling arriving in NY in Apr 1852 on the ship Sarah G Hyde. This time frame agrees with other data I have, and he is about the right age at 22. From the passenger list: Peter DOWLING, age 50, laborer Jas THURSBY, age 20, laborer Patrick DOWLING, age 22, laborer Eliza THURSBY, age 20, laborer My Patrick is from Castledermot. I have his parents and siblings arriving here in 1854. It would appear Patrick is travelling with Peter Dowling and the Thursbys. I have found no Peters in my line --- and no Thursby people. Does anyone recognize these people? Thanks, Jean Gobel Lakewood, WA, USA jcgobel@msn.com

Author: chuftier Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2313.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Helen, you have an interesting problem. I would go back to your grandfather's marriage and get a cert. When he got married, especially being Irish living in England he would have had to produce a baptism cert or birth cert. The name given then is more likely to be is legal one (though he could also have fabricate documents if he was really motivated) He could have found out when getting a birth cert or baptism cert that his father was not who he thought, which happened quite a lot in good old catholic Ireland. single mothers were so shamed that many devices were invented. I came across a few cases in my professional career. With the marriage cert, and the father's name confirmed, you can proceed and get a birth cert for him. Are you sure he was from Kildare? or is it just because you found the family on the Census? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John the father, widowed, children Michael, john, Bridget, Patrick, Francis and Janie. I may have found them on the 1901 census with their mother being Mary. Francis the son may have been my grandfather born in 1899, we have been led to believe his mother was Bridget and father John and all the names of his siblings and dates match although in later years he went by the surname of Kelly, quite mysterious really we don't know why but my nana was always convinced he was a Monaghan. He married in Coventry in 1938 and later settled in Derbyshire. How, why and when he came over from Ireland to England we don't know, there have been many tales and don't know the reason behind the 2 surnames. Any help would be great, Many thanks Helen.
