My Father's Birth Certificate dated 8 January 1904, states place of birth as 'Kildare'. Does this mean the Town of Kildare, and if so, how can I find a street address or other information ? Any help gratefully received. I know that his Father was employed as a Groom at the Curragh, and on marriage lived at Lockstown. Earlier members of the family lived at Kilcullen. Any help would be much appreciated. Best wishes to all, Sheila
Thank you Kevin for the info on Mary Duggan. Will ask my son re the UCD Sorry for being late answering you am moving at this time SLC -- No attachments with this message unless stated by the sender.
Terry Many thanks for the information - can you tell me how does someone on the other side of the pond access these records ? Will they do a "search" if I snail mail them and provide copies ? This is my first entry into searching overseas so unsure of how / where to start. Thanks again Kaz ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2004 8:22 AM Subject: Re: [Irl-Kildare] Rebellion in Kildare- for Kevin Yes, at a Dublin court martial on the 21st June 1799, Henry Kilmurry was the last one charged with the murder of the woman. After hearing many witnesses he was sentenced to be hanged "in the place where the murder was committed" and after confirmation of the verdict, he was executed by the pond. Kaz, This is the National Archives of Ireland's web site. http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ I have only dealt with them by ordinary mail where I found them very helpful in sending me copies from the 1901 and 1911 censuses though slow to respond. I think the reference to the Henry Kilmurry trial is 620/5/58/17/15. Good luck, Terry.

Kevin Many thanks for your efforts. I now know there were Kennas before 1840. I will get the book. Also, thanks to the one who suggested ABEbooks. There seem to be some copies around for cheap. I expect to be in Ireland in Oct and now maybe I will try to get to Athy. Again thank you. Ed Kenna

Her book is: "County Carlow 1791-1801 a study in an age of revolution" M.A. UCD 1969, pp 125-143, Mary L. Duggan. The M.A. may be a Masters of Arts designation, UCD may be a college in Dublin-I can't really tell. Kevin, another one worth mentioning was Captain Keating of Narraghmore whose mansion was destroyed by the government forces led by Colonel Campbell en route to Ballitore from Athy on the 27th May 1798. Keating, a liberal was suspected of complicity with the United Irishmen. Interestingly in Patrick C Power's "The Courts Martial of 1878-99" he singles out Colonel Campbell, Captain Swayne and Captain Erskine "who carried out a policy of brutality towards the population, especially the catholics and looted their property. Campbell led his men to Ballitore, for example, where people were flogged not just to secure information but really to terrorise the population and above all the Catholics." Terry Arthur, Tyne & Wear, England.
Thank you Kevin very much for looking I would appriciate the info on Mary Duggan if you don't mind sending it Thank you again SLC -- No attachments with this message unless stated by the sender.
There is quite a lot (9 pages) on a George Cummins, an apothecary from Kildare. "Both Cummins and [Malachi] Delany [of Ballitore] were deeply involved in United Irish activities..." in the late 1790's. "Lady Lucy Fitzgerald, Edward's radical younger sister noted the frequent presence of the Kildare apothecary George Cummins at Kildare Lodge in late 1796. Cummins close association with Lord Edward suggests the creation of a countywide organisation dates from this period."-from Gerard Campbell, "Pamela and Edward Fitzgerald", pp. 111-12; and Tillyard, "citizen Lord", pp. 208-11 Cheers, Kevin Kerwin ----- Original Message ----- From: "JenniferBantow" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 08, 2004 4:21 AM Subject: Re: [Irl-Kildare] Rebellion in Kildare > Any mention of the CUMMINGS, CUMMIN etc family please? > > Jennifer Bantow (nee CUMMINGS) > Geelong Australia > > >Sorry, no McEvoys mentioned-but I have seen the name in Athy a couple of > >years ago. > > > >Cheers, Kevin > >----- Original Message ----- > >From: "Lyn" <[email protected]> > >To: <[email protected]> > >Sent: Thursday, August 05, 2004 10:41 AM > >Subject: [Irl-Kildare] Rebellion in Kildare > > > > > >> G'day Kevin > >> Is there any mention of McEVOYS? > >> cheers > >> Lyn > >> > >> > >> ============================== > >> Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > >> Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
