    1. Re: [Irl-Kildare] New Subscriber re Returned Mail
    2. Ian Thank you for your quick response - I have forwarded your mail to Pauline. From what I can gather over the telephone the message said something about Rich Text v Plain Text. Pauline is a fairly new comer and I think it could also be possble that it may have been sent to a wrong address. I.E. List / Request / etc. Now something for myself I wonder if you would be kind enough to answer a question for me -- It is highly likley that some of my ancestors came from Newton Ards ( I am not sure if that is the correct spelling). Could you point me in the right direction as to which mailing list I should subscribe to. Thanks Again AudreyM PS I am an active member of the Cumberland Mailing List who are embarking on - setting up a One Place Study for Cumberland and Westmorland. 2. Jill Jackson
    3. Hello Terry, Yes, I agree with you that Clune could be Clane; there are many documents here that have these sorts of errors in them. With many different nations from overseas coming to Australia in the 1800's with different accents and at times no English the written word was often misspelt or misheard. This lead to errors, and or at times coupled with incompetence of some scribes, even laziness on their part. I am sure they came from Clane after carefully culling through the documents I have, as one or two spell it Clane, at first I though it was 2 different areas but now know it is one and the same, thank you for you help in this matter. The Peter Mackey and Michael Carroll you note are too late to be my ancestors; however, they could be descendants of the same families. In the early 1800, would Clane have been a village or a small town? I know it is classed as a City now. Thank you for your help, Regards, Jill J -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] When you say Clune could it be Clane? In the Primary Valuation of 1852 there was a Peter Macky (sic) listed in townland of Loughbollard Commons, parish of Clane, also close by in the same parish at Firmount West a Michael Carroll. There is no townland or parish listed with the name Clune in the whole of Ireland in the Townland Index of 1851. Terry Arthur.

    2. Jill at [email protected] writes: << In the early 1800, would Clane have been a village or a small town? As for Clane being a City....... only in the residents' dreams <gr>. Clane doesn't even make it onto the list of towns and cities in Ireland (2002) with populations over 3000. There are only 5 or 6 cities in the Republic (depending on how you feel about Kilkenny and their charter). Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

    3. Good day to this list. My name is Jill Jackson I live in Sydney NSW, Australia, I have just joined this List. I am searching for information pre 1850's Kildare, for my Ancestors the MACKEY & CARROLL Families. Several families, two of them by name MACKEY & CARROLL arrived in Victoria, Australia, between 1850 & 1860 from Kildare. Peter & Susan (nee Cleary) MACKEY, natives of Clune, County Kildare, known children born in Clune, Kildare: Ann b.1828 No information on her. Peter b.1829 James b.1831 Mary b.1832 Nicholas b.1935 Matthew 1840 Bridget b.1841 All of the above children came to Victoria Australia except Ann. They married into the families of CARROLL, DOWLING and a few other families from this area. Any information on the CARROLL & MACKEY families in Kildare I would appreciate. Regards, Jill Jackson

    3. Hi Kildare List, My name is Allannah and I am trying to find information on my gr gr grandmother Mary Ann WHELAN (sometimes WHALAN) who was born in Kildare c1823. Her parents were Stephen WHELAND? and Bridget LAUGHLAN. Mary Ann WHELAN came to Sydney Australia in 1839 on board the ship "North Briton/Britain". Mary Ann worked as a nurserymaid for Mrs. P LONG. Mary Ann married Timothy FAHY in 1842 at Liverpool near Sydney. The couple settled near Cooma NSW where they raised their children. Mary Ann died (in childbirth) in 1861, husband Timothy FAHY died in 1865. Do any of these surnames ring any bells please? Timothy FAHY was born in Tipperary c1799 so was quite a bit older than his bride. Thanking you in anticipation Allannah Wooloughan, Australia

    3. Hi, I imagine you already have this; but just out of curiosity I looked him up and he came over with his brothers; James, Thomas, John & Joseph on the Umbria on 18/19 March 1906. The only reason I looked is because I have a relative that came over from Monasterevan about the same time. However, my relative came on a different ship and different year. I have the image of your Kellys stored and can email it to you in case you don't have it already. 3. Write them: Parish Office Castledermot Co. Kildare. Ireland Ask them if they can help you. They sent me a birth read-out for my family of Dunnes who were registered in Castledermot in the late 1790's. They asked for a donation only. It's only a very small village and the lady in the office was very nice and helpful. I went in personally when I was over there are couple of years ago, they sent the information to my friend in Cork who, sent it on to me but I'm sure if you included a stamped addressed envelope, plus donation, they will oblige. The Irish are a beautiful people. I've just come back from another gorgeous 6 month stay there. Cheers, Dale in a rather warm, Queensland.
