It's a townland of about 400 acres. Here's a map showing Naas and Sallins: http://www.maynooth.ie/location/location-text.asp If they were RC the local church would be Our Lady and St. Joseph. You can contact the priest as follows: Very Rev. John O’Connell PP, Caragh, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland You should include a donation for a copy of the baptismal cert. Regards. Eilís O'Hara

The church in Caragh is named "Our Lady & St. Joseph". - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts
Are you sure it is Watertown and not Walterstown? The Walterstown would be in the Naas district.

I've discovered that my Thomas Dunne may have been a steerage passenger on the North Briton, along with his son, James from LEITH to HOBART 17 Feb 1836. How they got to Scotland from Co Kildare will be another challenge! Can someone please suggest where I might find this shipping information? Thanks Dale QLD
In Sept 2004, I was in Ireland and spoke, by phone, to Fr Dempsey from Crookstown. He was very friendly and told me the Kildare Heritage centre had just received the church records. He suggested I contact Fr Thomas Coughlan, Moone Parish with my request for information about my Timolin ancestor. I received a brief note back from him saying "marriage records here in Moone begin only in 1884. Death certificates are always, and only, issued by the registry of Deaths, Lombard (?) Street, Dublin" Just thought this may be of help..... ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 31, 2005 12:29 AM Subject: Re: re Kildare Heritage Center > My experience is that the Kildare Heritage Center does not have church > records. Sorry I forgot to say this before... the McLaughlin / McLoughlin ancestor I am trying to find was born about 1829. Thanks again! ~Michael~
Hi again! I've been trying to pinpoint where in Co. Kildare my McLaughlin ancestors would have most likely come from, so that I can start searching church records to see if I can find them! I need a little help though... On Griffith's Valuation I found several entries for McLoughlin in Co. Kildare. Most of them seemed to be from Usk. I cannot seem to locate the church records, however, for the places listed. The Ireland National Library lists the records by diocese, and I don't know which one to look under. I was wondering if someone could tell me the diocese for the following parishes: Usk Tulley Scullogestown Narraghmore Monasterevin Also, I am competely new to Irish genealogy. If someone with more experience could search Griffith's Valuation and suggest any other places or parishes that I should check for McLaughlin / McLoughlin ancestors in Co. Kildare that would be great! Thanks so much! ~Michael Messinger~
My experience is that the Kildare Heritage Center does not have church records. The Bishop refuses to share this information, you must go to the parish priest to look at church records. My family came from Crookstown. We met with the priest and he opened the records for us. WHen we asked why the Bishop would not allow the Heritage Center access to the records he said" there are still a number of families that live in this area. Some of these records might be considered scandalous" My family left in 1878! There are records in Dublin as well. All parishes were required to send copies to the National Archives or Library I'm not sure which... but you'll have more fun, and less hassle going to the Parish. Joe Walsh you know , life is like looking at a playground. You see fights, crying, screaming, laughing, and playing. Thats the beauty of it... in the end, it all works out.
Years ago my cousin got info from the Kildare Heritage Center ..... the info was good but it failed to list our G-g-grandfathers baptism and a few others in his siblings..... we were both asking ourselves where is his info why wasn't it included?????? I had ordered the film from the LDS library for the area and his baptism was not listed on it either.... I sent a letter adressed to the Parish Priest of the area in Kildare where they lived askings for any church info on both surnames and he was kind enough to send it to the proper area which was Allen and received back from them more church info than the Heritage Center provided all marriages all baptisms of the surnames but no deaths This info included our G-g-grandfathers baptism .... So I would suggest if you don't mind a suggestion ..... send a letter adressed to the Parish Priest of the area where you family lived asking for all church records for all the surnames.... it cost me the stamp to send the letter and I enclosed 3 dollars for return stamp .... Can you tell me how you found your information about the marriage between Mathew Losty and his wife? My ancestor was born in Timolin, Co Kildare 1791 and he married probably around the same time period as your man. I'm looking for his marriage details. Any help appreciated.
