Much appreciated. Ben & Barbara would be my ggg grandparents on my Mom's side of the family. Rumour has it that once George was a bit older, Barbara left George in Saint John and she went to the US somewhere in the New England area. She did travel back and forth to Saint John for a while. It is believed she died in the US but I don't know where or when. If you ever find anything on Ben & Barbara in Ireland or Scotland I'd be forever grateful. I'm assuming Ben died as she was listed as a widow when she arrived in Saint John but you just never know! Thanks again Barb. He was probably stationed in various places, you mentioned India, there was a death of a B.Scott in S.Africa and the Inniskillen Irish Infantry Regiment were there as well. The British Army records are in the National Archives in Kew, London www.familysearch.org and new PILOT 'under search records' on the main page: I found a marriage for a Benn Scott in 1863 Nass Registration District, Kildare Micro Film # 101249 and for Barbara Petrie McIntosh same. (there were two records with the spelling of one as Petrie and the other Petric-writing was hard to read in old documents) The only other records regarding a birth year for a Benn Scott was a death Apr-June 1920 age 82 est.birth year 1838, Clones Registration District, Fermanagh. I think there was an Army base Inniskillen/Enniskillen on the border of Fermanagh. Since Barbara was a widow in 1873 I'm sure that isn't his death but the birth year is about right. I didn't find anymore than you had already, I will keep looking as not too long ago I found a list of enlisted men in Enniskillen/Inniskillen about the right dates. Lizzie Dixon was born in Kildare (Kilcock I think) in 1903, the daughter of John Dixon (born England 1846/7) and Mary Minor/Mynor (born Meath 1866). Other siblings were Mary (born 1899 Kildare), John (born 1901 Kildare) and Bridget (born 1905 Kildare). There were 5 siblings who passed away. John and Mary were married in Rathmolyon in 1886. John's parents were Michael and Mary. Michael was born in Ireland but lived in England, where John was born. Mary was born in England. Mary Mynor/Minor's parents were Thomas and Margaret. My great grandmother, Lizzie, left Ireland around 1932 and came to England, first to Southampton and then settling in Bristol. If anyone has any information that matches up with this, I would be very grateful. I'm particularly interested in Lizzie's father and his line, which seems to go back and forth between Ireland and England. Many thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is believed that Barbara was born in Scotland 1830 to 1840, father John Petrie, farmer. Barbara married an Angus McIntosh on Feb 26, 1857 India Office Ecclesiastical Returns-Bengal Presidency,,, Misc,,, India. Apparently Barbara & Angus were back in Scotland when Angus died sometime in 1858. There were no children. Then Barbara was in Kildare by 1863 and married Benn Scott who was living at Curragh Camps, Parish of Ballysaz, occupation listed as Surveyor's Department. Barbara was also listed as living at Curragh camps at the time of marriage. A son was born about 1863 named George. I don't know if George was born in Kildare. Don't know if Benn and Barbara stayed in Kildare. Barbara and son George arrived in Saint John, NB Canada about 1873 and Barbara was listed as a widow. Can anyone help me find out what happened in the approx. 10 year span between 1863 and 1873 if it's possible. I haven't been able to find a death date for Benn or a birth date for George. Have no idea if Benn Scott was Irish or Scottish. Barb Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. First off in the www.eircomphonebook.ie there are now 7 in Kildare. My first suggestion while you wait an answer is to send off letters to all of them. No postal codes required. You are talking 1921 so there maybe people who remember the family. Don't forget a mailing as well as email address.Put all the information you know. Make sure that your e-mail address on the message board is always kept up to date, for example if someone doesn't contact you for a year and in the meantime you have change your email, neither they nor rootsweb can send you a message. www.censusfinder.com United Kingdom Ireland County www.ipg-web.com County www.familysearch.org - try the main page but not sure if they will have such late dated information but the new PILOT put on line in 02/09. The records go back to the late 1700's and into the 1950's. Includes some passenger records through an Ellis Is. link. eg: Mary Ellen Garland registration of birth Jan-Mar 1889 Nass Registration District, Kildare. I haven't looked for anything else to give you for examples as I'm not sure whether I would be searching Garland or Clements. Was Clements her married name, is your father a Clement or a Garland. I did confirm the birth year of Mary Ellen as 1888 on a searchable bmd website, you will need to contact me for more information,codeannette@yahoo.ca, also you didn't give the sibling 2nd.of 8.However, this website does not go beyond 1899 as most don't. Any records after 1864 were civil registration and a copy of certificate can be found at the General Registry Office, in Dublin. GRO they provide a bit of a search around a year, I think 5 years for a very reasonable fee considering what others charge for services. Hopefully this will be of some assistance to you.
