I have just added to the County Kilkenny section of my website a database of the names of people from Castlecomer and surrounding town(lands) who suffered losses during the 1798 Uprising when 5,000 Croppies from County Wexford marched through on their way to Dublin. It gives the person's name, where they lived, what they lost and the amount lost. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

I Also have information that I may be family to a Michael Rowe of Bance Castlecomer Kilkenny by a researcher in the Castlecomer area. If there is anyone who enjoys genealogical research and recognizes any familiar information,I would be grateful if you would pass the information on my enquiry onto them or myself. Best regards Derick Higa Sent from my iPad Hi Derick, There were two Rowe families in Ballylinnen in 1901, in adjoining houses. Margaret Rowe, Head,55,Farmer,widow Children: Catherine 26,Anne 24,Michael 17 Grandchild: Margaret Comerford 10 (born Laois) Michael Rowe,Head,53,Farmer Wife: Mary (nee Brennan ?) 40 Children: Nicholas 9,Denis 8,Julia 7,Honora 5,Martin 1 Margaret Rowe,58,Sister,Single Be advised that there were so many Brennan families in the Castlecomer area that they often added a "nickname" to the Brennan surname. One of the "nicknames" was Rowe. It rarely appeared on documents, being more of a local verbal I.D. Jack Langton
In my family research, I am finding many families that emigrated from Castlecomer and surrounding areas in County Kilkenny emigrated ca 1820-40's to Canada in the St Catherine's/Niagara Falls area of Ontario Province. I am wondering about how they got there, did they first land in Quebec or New Brunswick and then go into Ontario down the St Lawrence river into Lake Ontario? Also, I can't find early ships to Canada, anyone have some links? Thanks in advance for your help, Pat -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
