    1. [IRL-KIL-CASTLECOMER] List of Irish girls and women to America 1897-1940
    2. There is an article in this week's CATHOLIC NEW YORK describing the Irish Museum at Watson House at the tip of Manhattan (Our Lady of the Rosary Church, which includes The shrine to Mother Seton). The mission met the young, mostly single girls at Castle Garden or later Ellis Island and made sure they got off to a good start. The important thing for genealogists is that they kept records, listing name, age, county, and name and address of their destination party (usually a relative, which was so noted; brother, cousin, etc.) There are thousands of entries. It is a very easy site to negotiate. and access is free. The URL given by CNY is watsonhouse.org From the article: Five bound ledgers, with mission history from 1897 to 1940, were digitized. They include 35,000 records and can be searched at watsonhouse.org which also displays information and pictures from the exhibit. Jack Langton

    1. [IRL-KIL-CASTLECOMER] Irish Military Pension Files, etc.
    2. 2014 January to March National – The Irish Department of Defense has launched a collection of military service pension records that span the years from 1916 to 1923. The first tranche contains some 10,000 files on members of the Irish Volunteers, Citizen Army, Hibernian Rifles, the Irish Republican Army, Cumann na mBan and the National Army. This collection is part of a wider program by the Irish Department of Defense to catalogue and eventually put online some 300,000 military service pension files. Most of the files are expected to be online by 2016. The collection is fairly diverse and includes everything from letters applying for a pension to various organizational and membership files to basic administration files. The pension files are particularly detailed and list the full name of the individual, address, date of birth, date of death, civilian occupations, military record, military awards, etc. The entire collection can be searched by keyword. The website has a detailed guide to the collection. Access is free. [Republic of Ireland Military Pension Records] - See more at: http://www.genealogyintime.com/GenealogyResources/Country/Ireland/most_recent_genealogy_records_Ireland.html#sthash.aQfQgsIh.dpuf (The above is from Genealogy-In-Time.com, in itself an excellent site . There is a great deal of information in the Military Pensions file, it is not just for those who received a pension, and many ways to search. You will find names, home towns, age, marital status, next of kin, etc. I found my father and uncle listed, and am going back for more. Jack Langton

    3. Maybe we just need a roll call... > nice to see you on the CC list, it's gone dormant. Anyone have Rynard in their tree, I found this one in my family tree: Church Baptism Record Name: Mary Rynard Parish/District: Castlecomer, County Kilkenny Denomination: Church of Ireland Father: John Rynard Mother: Margaret Rynard Mary was baptised March 17, 1799 no age was given at time of baptism Mary married Martin Boyle. They had at least three children all baptised in Castlecomer Civil Parish. A couple then emigrated to Welland County in Ontario, Canada. Since I found the Rynard, I found that it is a Palatine name, originally from Germany. Most settled in Limerick area. So, besides BOOTH, BOYLE from Castlecomer area, I am now researching RYNARD. Anybody out there searching these names? If so, would love to compare notes. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    1. Re: [IRL-KIL-CASTLECOMER] Some baptism records from Castlecomer area
    2. Hi Pat, Thanks for the info re Castlecomer baps, unfortunately none were mine. But it did serve to remind me that I had gone over some old CC stuff and noticed that a Mary Brennan in the 1901 census of Clogh village was nee Connors, at least in my hand-written notes. She married Michael Brennan (Cap) on 9 Nov 1878 and in 1901 was a widow and Postmistress of Clogh, with 7 kids. A couple of the kids were great friends of my parents here in New York, this was after most of them left for America years later. In fact I knew some of the kids when I was a child and they had large families themselves. One of them, Mary, married a Paddy Hughes. Anyway, nice to see you on the CC list, it's gone dormant. 3. I am wondering if anyone is researching this surname, spelled many ways? I have a Mary Rynard (b 1799) who married a Martin Boyle. They lived in the Gorteen/Coolbawn area and were first members of the Church of Ireland and then were Welsyan Methodists. I believe she may have been part of a Pallatine family that lived in County Laois before moving to County Kilkenny. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
