Have you tried the Family Search website? It is free, all one has to do is sign up with name and email address. I did a quick look for births and found this link for birth, Castlecomer: https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?birth_place=Castlecomer%2C%20Kilkenny&collection_id=1584963 > Can anyone suggest where I can get access to records of find > information on the Kenny family from Castlecomer. Have you looked at my website, since I have family also from Castlecomer, I have a section dedicated for County Kilkenny and have many records in that section that include Castlecomer. My site's url is under my name at the bottom of this post. -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Hello List,Searching for many years for details on my KENNY family from Castlecomer. I thought I would try again to see if anyone can help. Mary Kenny was born at "Sunny Corner", Castlecomer, Kilkenny on the 15th August 1835 - from family bible of daughter. She arrived in Australia on the Lismoyne as an Irish orphan on the 22nd August 1849. Immigration records show that her parents Patrick and Mary Kenny, both school teachers were deceased. She was one of 400 Irish orphans sent to Australia. She was roman catholic. She lived at Hyde Park Barracks and a Bridget Murphy applied for her in 1850. She married a light house keeper of the Hornby Light - Henry Johnson and their story is on our websitehttps://www.williamsfamilyoz.net/henry-johnson [1] She sponsored a brother John Kenny to Australia in 1862 and the referee was a Patrick Kenny of Castlecomer, Kilkenny. He arrived in Australia in 1875 on the Jerusalem aged 33 years - both parents dead and brother of Mary Johnson of Hornby Light. He married an Elizabeth Jane Quine in Malew on the Isle of man in 1871. She was the daughter of a Thomas Quine and Eleanor. We would love to be able to find out more about her family from Castlecomer. It is possible that Mary's father Patrick Kenny born circa 1802 - 1808 had brothers Henry Kenny (1810 - 1877) and a Michael Kenny. Can anyone suggest where I can get access to records of find information on the Kenny family from Castlecomer.RegardsAnnie Lotocki born circaMary Kenny was borncirca1835 in Castlecomer, Kilkenny, Ireland.5She diedon the 20thJune1913 and was buried in grave No.54 Section G of South Head Cemetery, Sydney besideher husband, Henry.6Mary was a Roman CatholicIrish Orphan, daughter of Patrick and Mary Kenny(both deceased), her father a school teacher, and she came to Australia on the “Lismoyne” on the 29thNovember,18497200aged 12 -14. My daughter and I visited St Mary's Church in Castlecomer in 1994, I was expecting to be able to see a few gravestones and was under the impression that all records had been destroyed in the Dublin fire. We were able to speak with the Rector and learned that they still had the records, copies had been sent to Dublin so we were able view the records to learn a lot about my family and ancestry, my family was from Gurteen. The Church had records from 1840, which was also surprising since they did not have to keep records by law until around 1840. We erred by not checking some of the linked family names of males marrying into the Leacock and Stone families, we were new to genealogy at the time, my sister visited in 1995 and gathered a lot more info. Try working with this website. http://www.nli.ie/ I have used it in the past. There are many facets of it. It may be difficult, it was for me. They have church records for births, marriages and deaths. They have pictures of the manuscripts for Christenings, Marriages, and Deaths. Some records go back as far as the late 1700s. All hand records copied and placed on this website. If you have other Irish ancestors from a different county, look for them too, especially if you know the parish. Once you find records for the parish you are seeking, be prepared, some of the document are long and difficult to read. You will need patience and plenty of time, depending on the length of each document. Good luck. Mary Eliz.
