I can easily second Ray's comments and for New Haven, CT - I have found some ancestors and not all were criminals! Yes, being arrested for drinking related issues is big. Once in a while I have found a death notice which may give relatives and address. Using that address with the city directory (ancestry) I can figure out relatives. I am impressed with the amount of gore that they wrote up concerning, say, deaths from falling off a moving train. I am cheap when it comes to genealogy but this seems to be worthwhile.
