Janet, These sites may help: The Tithe Applotment Books are a vital source for genealogical research for the pre-Famine period. In case anyone might be connected to this particular Sullivan/O'Sullivan family (among the numerous Sullivans of Kerry), there is a long, detailed, interesting obit in today's Washington Post that includes this info: "Michael Joseph O’Sullivan was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Kilgarvan, in a mountainous area of County Kerry, Ireland, one of six children. Two sisters survive. He decided in high school to be a priest. He attended St. Kieran’s seminary in Kilkenny, Ireland, and in 1955 was ordained. He asked for duty as “a missionary any place in the English-speaking world” and was posted to Washington. After serving at St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring and Nativity Catholic Church in the District, he was assigned to St. Peter’s." http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/michael-osullivan-parish-priest-and-capitol-hill-presence-dies-at-81/2013/04/13/886d4c92-a3ad-11e2-9c03-6952ff305f35_story.html
Hello! I'm attempting to trace my husband's family in Kenmare so I can find present day cousins and set up a meeting for our family trip to the homeland. I have no birth records for Denis Shea or Johanna Hallisy sadly I only know born around1850.. I ordered a marriage record from: Civil Registration Office, Co. Roscommon. Hoped to find Denis & Johanna's parents names so I can piece together Denis & Johanna's siblings families to see who remained in Ireland. They came up with nothing maybe I ordered from the wrong area. I also know there's more than one Denis Shea from Cappanacush and more than one Johanna Hallissy from same area so I am seeking the documentation to be sure..Thank you so much for any help!!! ~Barbie McGrath Brueski (researching Shea, Hallisy, Sheridan) I found their marriage record online below, any idea how to order a marriage record to see their parents names (and sometimes they enter baptism dates?) http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/998ec105567 73 (My husband's gx3 grandparents:) Denis Shea (b 1850) & Johanna Hallisy (b 1850) marriage 27 June 1871 Their children (born in Cappanacush) are: James born b 6 May 1872 Kenmare (he married Anna Sheridan not sure where in Ireland Anna is from) I have all their children born Corning, NY) Honora born 8 Jan 1875 Kenmare Agnes born 29 Jan 1876 Kenmare Bridget born 1876 Kenmare John born 1878 Kenmare Mary Francis born 1881-2 Kenmare Denis Shea & Family emigrated in 1883 to CORNING, NEW YORK Hannah born 1884 NY Jeremiah born 1886 NY Helen born 1889 NY William Henry born 1892 NY Sending blessings to you all for your sharing, tips, and guidance!
