One of my g-g-grandmothers is Mary SUGRUE. If I"ve found the correct marriage, she was from Glaantane/Glantane, near the town of Ballynane on the Dingle Peninsula -- so a fairly long distance from Ardfert but it's just a short distance across the water to Dromavalla. Is it known whether the SUGRUEs from Glantane were related to either of these other families? Below is possible marriage of my Mary SUGRUE - note that Prior parish includes Dungegan which is where Michael & Mary settled, but this record may be a different couple, as my Michael would be about age 34 in 1854: County Kerry, Prior [Catholic] parish Marriage Register 1851-1860, : 25 Feb 1854 Michael Sullivan & Mary Sughrue; [bride] from townland: Glaantane [aka Glantane]; witnesses: Daniel Moran & Irasmes Bagn_ {Bartholomew SHEA}; {clergy Rev. Patrick Foley} Thanks in advance for any thoughts! Mary SUGRUE died on 2 March 1892 at the age of 33 and is buried in the Ellesmere Catholic Cemetery, near Leeston in Canterbury New Zealand. >> Three years later in 1883, Mary would be joined in New Zealand by her sisters Ellen and Catherine. >> My Mary DUGGAN arrived in New Zealand in December 1879 aboard the Lady Jocelyn and in October 1880 married my great grandfather Timothy SUGRUE. >> To date I have not located any evidence that the SUGRUEs from Ardfert were close relations to my SUGRUEs from Dromavalla in the Parish of Ballymacelligott. >> My query was ? had any person on the list heard the Catholic Church in Ballymacelligott being referred to as The Church of the Immaculate Conception. >> With thanks >> Jenny >> >> From: REG VOLK >> Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2013 3:05 PM >> To: mailto:jagb@mcmedia.com.au >> Subject: Re: [IRL-KERRY] Fwd: Has anyone ever come across one of these? >> >> So...who would this person be? >> >> https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FST2-3TY >> >> >> Reg
http://www.clannosiochru.com/index.shtml Hello Eileen, I guess like many names if you go back enough generations then they often have the same place of origin and were therefore possibly all related. The above link is dedicated to members of the O’Siochrú Clann scattered in several countries around the world. There are a great number of ways to spell SUGRUE etc. The site gives an overview to the history of the name.
