    1. [IRL-KERRY] Names ...
    2. Mary Simpson
    3. Pete and Christine, I have always been told - by our Walshes from Wexford - that the name can be spelled in many different ways, any which way you care to really, and is still the SAME name. So Walsh, Welsh, Welche etc etc, and in many places is pronounced WELSH, as they originally came from that country. And Brannagh is the same name. Marriages frequently took place not in the church, but in ( usually ) the bride's home, with the Parish Priest officiating. My great grandparents did marry in church in Cork, but not at the nearest one, which I always thought odd until I found out that the roof was being repaired on that one at the time. You never can tell, you see. Also Pete, is Tom Burnell's book available? I should love to be able to find a copy. Mary Still would love to find out why Island Turnaboul is named that, there doesn't seem to be any island near it now, although it is close to the Flesk, and locals haven't a clue when I've asked them, but the same happened when I lived in North Yorkshire and I was puzzled by all the ' Ings ' about. Then I discovered that an ING is a water meadow, i.e. land flooded in the Winter and grazed in the Summer. The locals didn't know! Just love topography.
