Hi Fiona, I am the Irish researcher for 2 of the companies that feature on BBC, I am working on a case at the moment, the office is not open until tomorrow. Plenty of info on adopted children inheriting but very little on adopted people dying intestate. The estate is quite substantial, it may come down to the bio family making a court application. The adopted child's mother has a very common surname, the child was born in Dublin, the mother was West of Ireland. Their descendents would be the principal heirs. If she had no other children, they would have looked at her own siblings (if any) and traced their descendents who would also be heirs. That is England of course - not sure what the story is here .... but hope this may give food for thought. Hw was adopted at birth and raised in a family who already had 4 bio children. The family also adopted a girl not related to Mr. A The family of 6 all grew up together, it was only in later years that it came out that two of the family had been adopted. The adoption act only came into law in Ireland 1952, it was therefore an informal arrangement. Mr A emigrates to England, he comes home on holidays and attends all family funerals. Mr A marries in England, no children. Mr A dies in England, he dies intestate, his wife had died before him. Who is entitled to his estate?
