Dear Rod, You must be due a trip over soon. My granduncle Fr. Michael was the historian in the family. He was parish priest of Valentia, Killorglin and finally Ballymacelligot (Ballymac as the locals call it) He told me when I was young that my O'Donoghue family were awarded land in Dromkeare, Waterville by the McCarthy Mor after the battle of the Boyne 1690. I think he was correct, checking the Thomond maps the McCarthy Mor had control over that area 1690. I only discovered last year that they were also awarded over 800 acres in Canburrin just outside Cahirciveen. They seem to have had a very close relationship with Daniel O'Connell the liberator's family as Morgan O'Connell was godfather to my GG Grandfather Daniel's first son. My father's twin married an O'Connell. He had the keys to Derrynane house, when I was 14 I spent a whole afternoon reading all the letters in the study. The house had its own oratory. The letters were mainly addressed to Daniel as a magistrate, mothers looking for clemency. I must have a DNA test done shortly, I was waiting until it was a more exact science.
