Hi Diane, My family did both a yDNA test & a Family Finder test through FTDNA. FTDNA's focus is DNA testing and they are very good at it. If you test through National Geographic, FTDNA is the company that actually does their testing. I have been extremely satisfied and would highly recommend them. For mtDNA, regardless of the testing company, the results rarely provide any meaningful genealogical connections. Typically, mtDNA can show that your female line ancestor was European, or Asian, a couple of thousand years ago. Depending on the situation, it can also help to confirm/refute a connection if you are comparing results with someone that has a solid paper trail. Hope you decide to dip into your gene pool! All of a sudden, it's being offered by so many groups and I'm confused about the best value for the money and what firm is giving the best service. I'm interested primarily in male lines. Finally got my dad talked into it! I appreciate any advice. Diane O'ConnorTiconderoga, NY, USA Searching O'Connor, McTighe, Denny, Summers, Eury and Easley
