Could one of our map buffs out there tell me where on a map Murreagh Cliff was and is? I think I bought gas there once but am doublechcking. === Michael, The townland of Murreagh (779 acres) is located just a mile or so to the NW and N of Waterville town. I don't find a mention of "Cliff" in the townland, and true cliffs would be unlikely there. The townland lies along the S bank of the River Inny estuary, and it seems to be mostly sand and mud along the banks (there's even an 18-hole golf course in the "sand hills" part of the townland). In the NE corner of the townland, just where the N 70 crosses the minor road up to Mastergeehy (and an RC church), there is also a church indicated on the Discovery map. This church is not mentioned in Mitchell's "A Guide to Irish Churches and Graveyards", but it is identified as an "RC chapel" on the old 6-inch maps as well as a "C.Church" on the somewhat newer Townland Index maps. The Waterville RC parish webpage list only one "full-time" church in the parish, St. Finian's. This may be the Murreagh church. Dunno. The Discovery map shows two church "symbols" in the town of Waterville, but I don't know the denomination of either of them. Mitchell is no help.......and my CD of town maps of Co. Kerry doesn't load (argh). Anyway, that's where Murreagh is located, but I don't know about the Cliff. There is/was a Murreagh House in the townland also. That's all I have.
