Hi Folks, Thankyou Pete for helping me make sense of these historical geographical locations, the meanings of words e.g "Drum and Drom refer to the same Irish word, Druim.....a hill or ridge, created by glacial action" this is really interesting - helps conjur up images of the area, as well as explaining the 2 different spellings of the same word.and so much more, thankyou for sharing your amazing knowledge. You wrote back "In your first paragraph, you mention Drombeg and, separately, Ballybunnion Parish. I'm assuming the latter is an RC parish." ..........yes it was Ballybunion RC parish. This reminds me of something I thought of recently - did the Irish Catholics get married in their churches? My GGGrandparents William Nowlan and Mary Walsh's marriage is recorded in the Ballybunion RC Parish. I originally thought this meant they married in the Ballybunion Catholic Church but if Mary came from the TullaBeg/Tullamore area was there a church in that area where they would have married or like my Scottish ancestors did they marry at home in the 1800's? Thankyou Maureen for the fibis website for families in British India. Years ago I had a search of this site but I went back again and had another look but nothing about my DennisNolan family unfortunately. I have got a copy of the Irish 1901 census for William Nolans family and the 1911 one also, thanks for that. And special thanks to Christina for helping me out by sending my query to the list to begin with. I'm happy to help out folk from my end, for any who have family that came to NZ. At our local library we have ancestry.com which has the NZ Electoral Rolls available. Best Wishes, Christine in NZ
