A full programme is inthe process of being planned, including: Lectures, coach trip, music, ceilidh and, of course, the grand clan dinner. As in previous years, the meetingwill take place in Creedon’s Hotel in Inchigeelagh, in the Parish of Uibh Laoghaire, County Cork, the ancestral homeland of theO’Learys. The weekend’s timetable is anticipated to include the following: Thursday 12th 4-6pm: Arrival 6pm; Formal opening and introduction to the Gathering 7pm: Interdenominational service in old Church yard followed by music at Creedon’s Friday 13th AM: Talks on Emigration / The Diaspora by Joe, Eugene and with members being invited to offer their own families recollections/ stories ofemigration We hope to have Jerry O’Leary talk to us on the Kerry O’Learys. PM- Guided village tour including Carrigcurra –the local O’Leary castle-with Joe Creedon 7.30: a ceilidh at Creedon’s Sat.14th AM: - Group photograph followed by: A talk on the history of the O’Learys Pm – Bus Tour: to include Lunch stop, Rosscarbery, ring fort 7.30 The annual O’Leary dinner followed by an evening of music and entertainment. Sun.15th Workshops on: The O’Leary DNA project The internet and family research –tips and pitfalls Internet help in research/etc 11 AM: - Formal close Although there are talks/presentations and updates, the weekend has a strong social side offering opportunities to renew old friendships, meet newmembers of the worldwide O’Leary clan as well as members of other families who can trace their roots back to this historic and beautiful part ofWest Cork. As in previous years, it will be very informal with little ceremony. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, while making new friends andlearning more about the families of Uibh Laoghaire. It is our intention to display individual “family trees”, so if you could e-mail/post or bring a copy with you for display it would bemuch appreciated. Also, if you would like to contribute to the Friday morning session by telling your (or your families) story of emigration, pleaselet us know ASAP. Having done their own research, many of our members are well aware of the pitfalls that await those tracing Irish families, so whynot come along and use the weekend to talk to our members and maybe find another name to add to your family tree! The charge, (including coach trip, entertainment, group photograph, annual dinner and a taste of West Cork’s food - cheese, meats and breads-on the Saturday) will be 95 euro.
