They do not appear in Griffiths probably because they were estate workers working on the Landsdowne Estate. The estate records are in private hands. They charge 100 euro a day to research the records. You have to research in person. I have searched graveyards in Kerry for my relations, unless they were rich or famous it is a real longshot. I believe all the Godson's in Kenmare came from one stem, a Rachel & Sarah who were born late 1700's Brendan ---------------------------------------- From: "Phil Stokes" <philastokes@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2013 9:24 AM To: irl-kerry@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-KERRY] IRL-KERRY Digest, Vol 8, Issue 83 Thank you Reg but I have all the current information, I was just looking for local knowledge about graveyards as I have exhausted the records available online. They do not appear in Griffith's Valuation for the area. They lived there until at least 1850 and the mother, Hanora, died in Kenmare in 1890. The father Richard died before 1873 and they had 6 children born in the period 1838 to 1850 -Thomas, James, Margaret, Sarah, Dorothy and Charles who I know details about. Some of the family seemed to move closer to Killarney during the second half of the century. I was wondering if there are any graveyards which would have graves going back that far. I have a feeling that the family may have worked on one of the estates. There were two large houses in the Killowen area. Later some of the family were employed in estate houses in the Killarney area where subsequent generations worked in the hospitality industry. I know that in Kerry you are lucky to have free access to church records and municipal graveyard records but I was wondering about access to burial records for catholic graveyards and if they are not accessible, whether gravestone inscriptions are recorded anywhere?
