In the meantime, I have a scary story to report. >From the New England Historic Genealogy Society (NEHGS) newsletter came a report from the Irish Times (June 24) titled "EU Regulation Could Restrict Genealogical Research." The opening remark said, "Access to old parish records on microfilm in the National Library and to records held by the State such as birth, death and marriages could be restricted if a proposed European Union regulation on data protection goes ahead, the Genealogical Society of Ireland has said." Finland and Lithuania are to respond to the EU. The article is long but I can send it on to you if the list takes attachments. Do you know any more? Is this a real threat for current research? What of materials already transcribed by Family Search, Ancestry, etc.? There are 27 EU countries, including Ireland. Hoax or real threat? Maureen in Colorado
