I just received results that my ancestors were from Kerry, possibly Knocknagashel or Rathoran. I have found that my great-great grandfather, Jeremiah Horan, was born in 1828 (May/June) and baptized in Castleisland on June 5 1828 I believe he left for the USA in 1848. My great grandfather, John Jeremiah Horan was born in Indiana 12Nov1866. I believe he married Ellen Cormicon, born Dec 1839, possibly from Limerick. I don't believe they were married until 1854, after they got to the USA. Other surname DNA matches are Enright, Scanlan, Donoghue, Ruddy/Roddy, Kane/Cain, and Devine. I am hoping someone can help track down some more information about my Irish family heritage. Thank you Mike Horan
Hi Mike, I am related to the Scanlan Family of Winton Western Queensland, Australia, through my Great Aunt Mary Ann, formerly Moynihan. Do you have any of the Moynihans in your family tree? Mike, I will probably only frustrate you with my info--it is so scanty. However, our families are from the same area in Kerry... I'm living in Australia for the next year & my genealogy records are on my computer at home (arizona) so this is from memory.... My grfa, Daniel Michael Sheehan & his sister Mary Sheehan immigrated from Kilmanihan West, Knocknagashal, Co Kerry in 1896 to columbus Ohio. Daniel had 3 ch, Helen b.1908, Daniel (my dad)b. 1911 and Frank b. 1916--I cant remember which baptismal record lists a Mary (I think it was Mary--I could be wrong) Horan. Since i recognized all the baptismal sponsers as family I wondered who Horan and an Ellen Fitzgerald were & if they are related or just friends from home. I will try to see if my dau can access my records but I thought this might give you a locale to search. I have always wondered who in columbus my grfr came to....grfr spoke of how the Irish community would pool their $ & sponser someone from Ireland to come to columbus & that periodically there would be somone living with them for awhile before he got a job & moved on.
