Jill, I am not sure if it will mean anything to you or not. I have a Mathias Quilter of Clooneen who married Sara Cotter in Castleisland on 1st March 1829. There is another marriage on the Irish Genealogy site for a Nicholas Cotter who married Johanna Quilter of Clooneen in Causeway on 6th Feb 1826. Unfortunately I don't have a townland for the Cotter's but with marriages this early we should be grateful if we can get them at all. I have noticed you researching Cotters but other than above, that's all I know about Cotter's. (apart from reading about the Four Mary's in a comic (Bunty or Judy) as a child, one of those Mary's was a Cotter). I too will be at the Festival in Castleisland at the end of July. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun. For those who missed the Sullivan gathering in Sneem there is a 3 minute bit for it on youtube at www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pR1py6n389Y#at=10 Also the following four publications 'The Unquiet Grave', 'Islands in the Cloud', 'Past Kingdoms' and 'Medieval Treasures of County Kerry' - have digital copies now available for free download at www.kerrycoco.ie/en/allservices/heritage/publications/ I too miss Jack Sweeney's banter. Hi Bernie Thanks for this Cotter info. Nicholas is a name that is very common in our Cotters, but I have not seen the name Sara to date. My grandfather Nicholas Joseph Cotter was born in Glanworth Co Cork in 1885. I am not back to the 1820s yet. I know my g.grandfather William Cotter born in Co Kerry c1849 was a son of William Cotter and had an older brother Nicholas born approx 1844 but the paper trail runs out then. Yes I too used enjoy the Bunty & Judy.
