[snip] The location is written as Grandurr on a Millstreet parish baptismal record. === Cheryl, As Marge mentioned, there aren't many "close" placenames in Co. Kerry (or in Cork, for that matter). But I think her two Kerry locations are too far from the Millstreet parish to be probable. One is out on the Dingle peninsula near Dingle town, and the other is 4 miles WSW of Castleisland town. I have a great location in mind, but there's a wee problem......it would require an odd mis-reading of 19th century script - a double "f" read as a double "r". It seems unlikely, I'll admit. But the townland of Garraneduff is only a mile or so East of Millstreet town, in Co. Cork........close enough for a convenient baptism. I didn't find any truly suitable candidates in Co. Cork, other than this dubious one. I'm not sure how an "ff" script could look like an "rr". Perhaps someone with more experience in reading Irish script of the period could comment on this. It really does sound unlikely, I must admit. But it's all I've got. I think Pete's suggestion is a much better one than mine. I must admit I did not look to see where Millstreet was in comparison to the place names that I found. Also, consider how the name might be interpreted by a priest new to the area if the person did not pronounce it clearly enough.
