Hi Jerry, Perhaps these days would have been universally marked in the northern hemisphere. Beginning of November = beginning of winter. Late December = the solstice and mid-winter. Beginning of February = the first signs of spring. Also, regarding the word Christmas. Christ (Christos) is Greek for "the anointed one" (covered in oil) i.e. the Messiah. In Greek lettering, it is Χριστός. Originally it was regarded as a title and not a surname. Slán leat, a chara, Pádraig. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerry Kelly" <jerrykelly@irishtribes.com> To: <irl-kerry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 28, 2013 12:02 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-KERRY] Xmas Go raibh maith agat, a Phádraig. / Thank you, Patrick.
