I like others back in 1930s was taught by Nuns here in Australia NEVER to use X and thus grew up thinking that way. I was stunned a few years ago when I obtained a few Catholic Church documents for UK and dated early 1800s where the Priest had very clearly written Xmas each time he was referring to Christmas. Have been trying to find the docs among my many papers but without luck. At the time I pointed it out to my wife as she, a NZer, had been bought up with the same teaching as me.
