    1. [IRL-KERRY] Munster to Wales to Pennsylvania (MUNWAPA) Project
    2. Hello list- I am writing to introduce a new project concerning the Irish in Wales. Through our respective research, fellow researcher John Steitz and I realized how little is known about the Irish settlement in Wales. We decided that if we were able to combine our information, we would be better able to pinpoint settlement and migration patterns. By combining information about our ancestors, we increase the chances of finding out more about our own. One of the ways in which we can combine information is through studying where in Wales our ancestors settled – I may not know where in Co. Kerry my great-great grandfather was born, but if I study the origins of his neighbors, I have a better chance of figuring out from where he may have been. Since so many of the Irish in Wales were from Munster Province, and since many of them went on to Pennsylvania, we have dubbed our project the MUNWAPA (Munster to Wales to Pennsylvania) Project. We have a site dedicated to this concept – it can be found at www.MUNWAPA.moonfruit.com. Although John and I have never met, we share a common bond in our ancestor’s past – they left Ireland at around the same time, and settled in Wales around the same time. Within 10 years of one another, they left Wales for Pittsburgh. Although this migration has not been heavily studied, we are hoping that by sharing all of respective ancestors’ stories, we can fill in the blanks and learn more about our ancestors’ lives. If your ancestors made a similar journey to Wales, we hope that you will take the time to visit the website and help us with our project. This is a free site. We just ask for a bit of honest participation in return. Thank you. Amanda & John
