I would like to add that while it is certainly difficult to get used to driving on the "wrong side of the road," nothing snaps you back into the "right side" than seeing a truck barreling down the road towards you - Not trying to scar you, just how it is - It took my friend and my boyfriend all about 5 minutes to get used to it - You'll be fine. Get the insurance for the narrow town roads - we wiped out a few mirrors on our way through town - oops...oh well. Definitely peace of mind insurance - and you don't want to have to pay all that hefty Euro expense God forbid something even small happens. When in doubt, we found that as long as we allowed the fast Irish drivers to pass us, they were very nice and thankful for same and understand an American tourist when they see one (not so hard to hide!!!) :) -A -----Original Message----- From: John L. Just buy all the insurance that's offered. D.D. calls it "peace of mind" insurance, and it is. Driving on the left side of the road is fine when the driver and his steering wheel and all the other bits are on the right side of the front seat. HOWEVER, if you are used to driving from the left side of the front seat [how its done in the "civilized world"] on the right side of the roadway, when driving from the right side of the front seat, you will have difficulty judging just where the left-front corner of the car happens to be. [It's all a matter of habit]. That's what accounts for all the broken left side mirrors of rental cars in Ireland.
