When she who must be obeyed and I have to hire a car, we find that paying for the car by amex gives us cover by amex for the insurance. Most cards over basic level give some cover. We pay an annual fee on the card and that gives us travel insurance including medical hire car etc. To get the cover you must book the flights and hire car using the card.
