Those of us who are long time visitors to Ireland can remember back to the 1970's, when they still had horse racing on the strand. Fond memories of a practice now disallowed. Apparently, it resulted in injuries to the animals, though the one I witnessed in Co. Mayo was free of that. Shades of 'The Quiet Man'.....
