My grandmother, Mary Nolan, born in 1875 in Kilmoyly / Ardfert immigrated in 1996 and said she was the Rose of Tralee...and I think many others have claimed this. However, I believed it for quite a few years. I'm not sure when the song was written or what the history of it is. Kathleen The Rose of Tralee was Mary O'Connor. She died in 1849 and her grave can still be seen at the graveyard in Clogherbrien.
