    1. [IRL-KERRY] A query from an Irishman, but color me dubious....

    3. Greetings, I got the below correspondence as a response to my website and my interest in Whelton genealogy. At first I was excited, thrilled out of my shoes! But then I got suspicious and am wondering if I might be wrong to be so.... I mentioned names in my family history, John, David and "evil" uncle Andrew who I doubt is even a Whelton....my ggrandfather Bartholomew was left behind in Ireland when the rest of the family emigrated in 1861 as a 6 year old and stayed with "Uncle Andrew" who mistreated him....but these names were from 150 years ago!! The fellow who wrote to me has all of these names in his family including "Andrew" and wants to see the US. I don't want to seem unfriendly but this seems like a setup to me....someone anxious to visit the US and making up ancestors..... If anyone has the time to read the correspondence and can comment on it, I'd appreciate it. I 've been "leary" of writing back to this guy again.... All the best, Mary Ellen Searching for Wheltons from Cork, Horrigans and McCarthys from Kerry and Connors from Leitrim and a bunch of Swedes.... There was a large family that grew out of that house. There was a bother Andrew that died in the British Navy in WWII and it seems these names are repeating alot. We have John, David and Andrew that are all prominent names in my side. I will definitely explore more and given my USA life, I would love to see if we can make some connections. I think it is very important to see our family tree. I will keep in touch. I think my Wheltons are from Knocknageehy, as the names David and John are prominent in my family tree and there was a David and John there in the Griffith Index, but all I ever heard was that John Whelton was from Clonakilty...and odd stories about my ggrandfather, Bartholomew being left behind while the others emigrated. I heard he was left behind as a babe in arms but it seems more likely that he was 6 years old. He was also left with an "Uncle Andrew", but I don't know if this guy was a Whelton or not. He also supposed worked very hard on "the farm" but when he came to the US, pursued his former occupation as a fisherman. Who knows. Should you get a family tree together, that would wonderful and I'd love to hear about your results!
