Hi, to use Skype for free calls both people must be using Skype software on computers or special WIFI phones. You can register on www.skype.com and buy credit to make calls from ur laptop to standard phones and mobiles(cell phones). Calls to standard phones are 1-2cent per minute worldwide and calls to cell phones about 15cent per minute. This service is called SkypeOUT Downside of skype is u need to connect to internet. There are alot of free WIFI hotspots in cities in hotels etc but not much in B&Bs and countryside. Another option is www.mobivox.com . Here u just make a local irish call (nos available in most countries) to mobivox service and then voice activate call to US or whereever. Much the same rates as Skype but difference is that u dont need PC to make call and can use a cell or standard phone. I use both for all international calls so email if u have any questions. Another skype option is to buy a SkypeIn no. Think this is available in US so u could buy a US no so anyone can phone it and u can get call on ur laptop from whereever u are in world. This service is called SkypeIN If you were planning to travel to Ireland periodically you could buy a cheap 'pay as u go' cell phone and top it up whenever u are in Ireland.
