Hi. This is the closest I found, a townland called Lauhir, in the PLU of Killarney. You said the writing was smudged. I used the www.seanruad.com website and just used the first section for townlands in the County of Kerry, province of Munster. It listed all of them. Then I tried the PLU box for Killarney and found Lauhir. I've used this site to double check spellings of all kinds of names. My family gave their birth places as either the townland, the PLU, the county, the civil parish, etc. This is the fastest way to check. Also, try the Co. Kerry site < http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlker/ civparlist.html> and check the townland locations out against any other location you have and see if it's close by. If brother and sister are using two different addresses for the same birthplace, this may be a proximity double check for you. Maureen in Lakewood, CO
Thanks for finding this Maureen. Looking at the handwriting, it is possible that it could be Lauhir, though it looks like it is spelled without the 'a'. I wish I could paste it into this email but I scanned it into a word document and cannot figure out how to copy and paste it. I wondered why they didn't list the county. What is a PLU? Is there a map that shows where this townland is or was--does it still exist? How does Lauhir connect with Beall? I am so confused by all of these names! I can't believe I went all the way to Killarney and didn't go there. Can you believe it? I get the information 2 months after I go to Ireland!
