    1. [IRL-KERRY] Killarney Poor Law Union Board of Guardian Minutes
    2. Ray Marshall
    3. I don't recall seeing this before, but it is a wonderful resource. Rough typewritten transcriptions of the Killarney Poor Law Union Board of Guardians minutes for 1845-1848. This pretty much encompasses the time period of the Great Famine. The Workhouse minutes books, scanned from the original Killarney Union Minute book are rough records kept by the Killarney Union Board of Guardian meetings. These pages document the activities of the workhouses, including numbers of the homeless seeking shelter, descriptions of those accepted or denied, and the cost and disbursement of provisions. Minute books have been abstracted, and as they are completely transcribed, they will be added to the website. The activities of the Killarney Poor Law Union were overseen by nine ex-officio Guardians and 27 elected Guardians from the Union's 11 electoral divisions. Their responsibilities included taking account of the Union's funds and expenditures and overseeing the operations of the Killarney Workhouse http://www.thegreathunger.org/TheCollection/KillarneyMinutes/ There rarely will be names of inmates (those housed in the Killarney Workhouse. But going through the minute books will give you an idea of how severe the Famine hit the people of that area. The Famine did not strike severely everywhere. Maybe your ancestors were better off, or worse off, than their neighbors. Ray Marshall Minneapolis, where the temps have been moderate and the humidity love, recently.
