Hello, I am very new to family history research and would appreciate some help. I am trying to find information about my Great grandfather, Matthew Doran, from Ballybunion (Correct spelling? Ballybunnion on his marriage certificate) I would love to know when he was born - about 1850/51, maybe a year or 2 later, and when he left Ireland for Australia, perhaps via England. Also about his parents (John and Nora, nee Sullivan or O'Sullivan) and any brothers and sisters. The family were evicted from their home in Ballybunion and moved to Asdee. Is that a town nearby? Is there a way to find out if there are any Dorans still in the Ballybunion/Asdee area? The only definite information I have is that he married Bridget Breen (originally from Tipperary) in Toowoomba, Queensland, in 1880. If anyone can supply missing information, or give me an idea where to get information (I have had no luck on the sites I have searched), I would really appreciate it. Someone suggested I write to the parish priest in Ballybunion for baptism records. Is that an option I should try?
