    3. *May I wish all Kerry-roots listers a happy New Year. Does anybody know whether the name Cournane as it appeared in Glenns/Poulagour in the 1780-90s was aversion of Courtney? If not can sombody tell me what the origins of it are please? and whether it couls have been used a version of Courtney. On the digitized I have found another great version of Poulagour/Paulagaur/Poulagower. The latest is Baulagaure used in a transcription of record from 1788. In fairness the "B" could have been a flourish of the pen for the "P". It all adds to the richness of the search. Regards to all Finbar *

    3. I'd like to second the New Years' greetings to the list. And, as long as Finbar brought up the subject of variant spellings. . . . My Reidys came from Meenleitrim North townland in Castleisland Civil Parish, formerly Brosna R.C. parish, now Knocknagoshel R.C. since 1916. Occasionally, though, I see a phonetical spelling along the order of "Beenleitrim." Are the letters "M" and "B" pronounced somewhat similarly in Irish? They are kinda of similar if your nose is really stuffed up, especially a "terminal M." "P" and "B" are very similar in English. Ray Marshall In balmy Minneapolis where after 6 snow emergencies and record snowfalls in December, it rained today. I carried my umbrella with me when I went out. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Finbar O Mahony Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2010 4:13 PM To: irl-kerry Subject: [IRL-KERRY] Cournane *May I wish all Kerry-roots listers a happy New Year. 3. Finbar, List, Courtney is the anglicized version of Cournane..also up around Glenbeigh and Castlemaine it's Coornane. I've seen Curnane, Courtayne, etc. I was told that Crean can be a form of Courtney but rarely.
