    3. Mary Ann LESLIE , born 1844, & lived in Aglish, Killarney area, left for New Zealand from Cork. I do not know if they made their way directly from Cork, or if they made their way to e.g. an English Port. The Mary Shepherd, which arrived Feb 1866, Auckland, New Zealand. For some reason I have not noted the embarkation date, I assume early December 1865. We know that her family travelled to see Mary Ann, & her Brother, William Day LESLIE, off at the Port. 1. [IRL-KERRY] Emigration route

    3. Michael - thank you for this information. Are you talking about trains from Cork in to Tralee in 1859? Was there a direct line between Cork and Tralee at this time? I tried yesterday to find this information on Google but did not have much success. My initial query regarding the most likely route for immigrants around 1874 leaving Tralee to join a ship at Gravesend seems to have created interest. Thank you to all those who responded. Would I be correct in concluding that in all probability, an immigrant from near Tralee joining a ship in London or Gravesend would journey by train from Tralee to Cork and then by boat to the English port of embarking for New Zealand - in this case the 'Geraldine Paget' at Gravesend. The 'Geraldine Paget' did not call at any ports in Ireland on its way to New Zealand so my great grandfather Tim SUGRUE must have made his way to Gravesend. Would the Tralee - Cork - Gravesend route have been more likely that taking a smaller ship directly between Tralee (Blennerville) and Gravesend? Thoughts welcomed!
