My great uncle age 65 went back to Ireland to get birthcertificate to get SS, He almost died on the Queen Mary but a couple, who passengers, took him under their wing so to speak. When he got to Cobh he took a wagon ( can't remember the Irish name) to The Glen, Rathkerian near Valentia Island. He was very unhappy about the ride. The wheels were old wooden ones and hit every bump, rock, or what ever. Going back to the boat he walked. He was 65 then. 1938 before the war. Then he returned to Ireland in 1950+/- and died in 1953. I can still see him in his green fedora hat and thorn walking stick. I still have. But if there was no train they walked or at least some did.
