    1. [IRL-KERRY] St Patrick's Day as a General-Use Irish Birthday?

    3. Hello All, It may just be coincidence. Or it may be me just seeing patterns where there aren't any. But I've seen it enough times to have the idea that March 17th was used as a birthdate for Irish immigrants who either didn't know or didn't remember their true birthdate. Was it common practice among the Irish who came to this country to use St Patrick's Day as your birthday? There are nine occurrences of this in my own database, where there are no primary records corroborating the 17th March or the primary record directly contradicts this. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a little-know (to me at least) tradition? William D Romanski Rhode Island
