I obtained mine from a specialist dealer in Gaelic books. Their mission statement is...' a survey of the place-names and the history relating to them, together with surnames and the names of people (there) '. The author had to rely on the narratives , recollections and memories of various local informants. The usual format for each Townland is: 1. Any reference to the townland in any ancient historical documents,and any spelling variations. 2. The meaning of the townland name, and its local pronunciation. 3. A schedule of topographical features, to include names of cliffs,inlets, sea and land rocks, ancient remains of churches and cemeteries,hills, streams, mills(or any economic activity) 4. A listing of the occupiers in 1850, segregated into occupation of (a) house and land (b) only land ..(c) house only. ( this information was abstracted from 'Griffith's Valuation ) It is usually in this section that references are sometimes made to persons' 'nicknames', or occupations, or what at one level some might term as trivia,and at another as 'golden nuggets', about persons or families.. like their occupations, origins ( if from a different area ) association with any local notable event or business. 5.
