I'm writing to check if an old news item that I read recently was correct or not - unfortunately my husband did his usual recycling of the newspaper before I could stop him so I don't have the piece to hand but it went something like this; The British kept control over an island in Bantry Bay - Bear Island? - and used it during WW2 as a military station. Was this correct? I have never seen anything about this before and it does seem unlikely, but I do remember that Churchill wanted to get the city of Cork and the southern coast of Ireland back to use as bases against the German Navy.
