    2. Erin Casey
    3. Hi Kerry Listers, I have obtained a record of birth of my great grandfather Cornelius Kennedy in Milltown County Kerry, but I don't really know where to go from there in my research. The record states the Superintendent Registrar's District as Killarney, the Registar's District as Milltown, and the Union as Killarney. It shows his father's name was James Kennedy and his Dwelling Place was Listry. He was born on July 27, 1871 and his mother was Hanorah Foley. I also know from his obituary (in Springfield, MA) that his sibling's names were Stephen J., John J., Michael J., James J., and Mary. Would anyone on this list be able to direct me to where I can find out more information regarding my great great grandparents James and Hanorah? I feel like with the Dwelling Place (not exactly sure what that means) of Listry I should be able to find census or additional church records but I am not sure how to obtain them. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Erin C.

    3. Have just come across several instances of several father's name being entered onto different baptismal entries ( for the parish of Ballinhassig in Cork ) as PEG. Would anybody care to chance a guess at what the full name might be? If it were female, I would have said Margaret, but am stumped for a male version. Mary

    3. Mike, I will probably only frustrate you with my info--it is so scanty. However, our families are from the same area in Kerry... I'm living in Australia for the next year & my genealogy records are on my computer at home (arizona) so this is from memory.... My grfa, Daniel Michael Sheehan & his sister Mary Sheehan immigrated from Kilmanihan West, Knocknagashal, Co Kerry in 1896 to columbus Ohio. Daniel had 3 ch, Helen b.1908, Daniel (my dad)b. 1911 and Frank b. 1916--I cant remember which baptismal record lists a Mary (I think it was Mary--I could be wrong) Horan. Since i recognized all the baptismal sponsers as family I wondered who Horan and an Ellen Fitzgerald were & if they are related or just friends from home. I will try to see if my dau can access my records but I thought this might give you a locale to search. I have always wondered who in columbus my grfr came to....grfr spoke of how the Irish community would pool their $ & sponser someone from Ireland to come to columbus & that periodically there would be somone living with them for awhile before he got a job & moved on. Good Hunting! Molly To: "IRL-KERRY@rootsweb.com" <IRL-KERRY@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2013 9:44 AM Subject: [IRL-KERRY] searching for Horan history from Kerry I just received results that my ancestors were from Kerry, possibly Knocknagashel or Rathoran. I have found that my great-great grandfather, Jeremiah Horan, was born in 1828 (May/June) and baptized in Castleisland on June 5 1828 I believe he left for the USA in 1848.  My great grandfather, John Jeremiah Horan was born in Indiana 12Nov1866. I believe he married Ellen Cormicon, born Dec 1839, possibly from Limerick.  I don't believe they were married until 1854, after they got to the USA. Other surname DNA matches are Enright, Scanlan, Donoghue, Ruddy/Roddy, Kane/Cain, and Devine. I am hoping someone can help track down some more information about my Irish family heritage.   Thank you Mike Horan _______________ ---------------        Policies of the IRL-Kerry List: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlker/mailing.html                                               To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-KERRY-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message. 1. Re: [IRL-KERRY] Catholic / Protestant marriages
    2. Hello Mary, I carried ot a research project for a lady in Australia, her G grandmother Margaret Sweeny was born in Clifden Galway 1841, daughter of Morgan Sweeny a Coastguard officer. I picked up two children born in Strangford, Co. Down, same parents. She told me I was barking mad. Coastguard records are now online in large PDF files you can download from the National archives in London. Morgan was in Clifden 1841, he was a boatman, the records recorded his transfer to Strangford station, the records also showed that he was from Dunloe, Donegal, that is where he signed on. RIC files are available in Dublin City library, the file gives year of birth, place of birth, wife if married, wife's county of birth and all transfer details, date left, pension. I believe the lighthouse personnel records are online. 3. I hadn't even noticed that - given the context, I read it as flying columns anyway! I'm not sure about the social status of lighthouse keepers - I don't know if there was enough of them to merit much mention. I suppose they were just seen as 'the Establishment' as opposed to being 'forces of oppression'. Steve. 3. Hi Brendan, Where do you find the lighthouse keeper records online? My great grandfather Patrick Moran was one on Valentia Island and I would be thrilled to find any information on him. 1. [IRL-KERRY] GRIFFIN Co. Kerry
    2. Michael posted this a while back, and I neglected to send a reply. So here goes. I have a second great-grandmother, Mary GRIFFIN (no dates known), but thought to have been born abt. 1820-25. Mary and Thomas RICE were married, 1 Feb 1844 Castlemaine Co. Kerry. This information taken from the church records online. I have no further details about Mary's parents or siblings. Thomas Rice was born 29 Jan 1822, Castlemaine. I do have six children born to this couple. They were Edward/Edmund; Mary; Patrick Thomas; Ellen; Margaret; and Mary Elizabeth. Brothers Edward and Patrick Thomas came to the U.S. settling in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA. If anyone sees a possible connection, will gladly share what I have. Best of luck with all your family searches. Marybeth C. acmbjc@aol.com =================================================================================== I am very new to this and have hit a dead end. I have traced one line of my family to a Timothy GRIFFIN and Elizabeth CALLAHAN who had at least 5 children from 1857-1871 in various places around the Castlegregory area of Dingle: Mary, Andrew, Jeremiah, Margaret, and Catherine (my great-grandmother). I have found the children's baptismal records online in Ireland, but no marriage or other records to trace Timothy and Elizabeth. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Michael

    3. Hello Steve, I have an instance of a man from a staunchly non Catholic background - baptised into the C of I although originally the family were Huguenot, a Francis Dukelow born 1870, Durrus in southwest Cork, who became a Catholic to marry my great aunt Mary Ellen in Wexford Town in 1900. He was a policeman in the RIC, but on the other side of the family we had members of the Flying Squads ….. I also have Kerry Sullivan in my mother's family, a Julia Sullivan, born Minish 1813 to Thomas Sullivan and Gobinet Counihan, originally from Cloghereen, just south of Killarney. Also Sullivans tying in with Sheehans and Shea on another branch of the family from Cloonmore, Castlemaine / Milltown. Trouble is, there are SO many Sullivans! Mary
