Diane You didn't give any time line for the Moynihan Scannell family so this may not be relevant. >From Irish church records www.irishgenalogy.ie Andrew Moynihan Margaret Scannell Marriage Rathmore R.C. parish http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/bb50650582388 and if you search the site you will find some children but nothing that I can find for Catherine. Kerry records were micrifilmed by the LDS in the 1950's, the microfilm's are available in the National library in Dublin. Castleisland has a number of gaps in its BMD records, missing books Killorglin also has missing books especially around 1850's Canirciveen records, microfilm is quite mutilated up to 1863. Irishgenealogy records are not complete, very few records for Milltown area. Hi fellow list members I just saw this on facebook :This is the Ireland Genealogy Projests IGP Anyone in Dublin the weekend of 18th october Genetic Genealogy Ireland 2013: Free DNA Tests ggi2013.blogspot.co.uk A 3-day series of DNA lectures kindly sponsored by FamilyTreeDNA and organised by the International Society of Genetic Genealogists (ISOGG) http://ggi2013.blogspot.co.uk/p/sponsored-dna-tests.html I won't be in Dublin, but worth considering DNA Testing there are good blogs about it Maureen
Hi Diane, My family did both a yDNA test & a Family Finder test through FTDNA. FTDNA's focus is DNA testing and they are very good at it. If you test through National Geographic, FTDNA is the company that actually does their testing. I have been extremely satisfied and would highly recommend them. For mtDNA, regardless of the testing company, the results rarely provide any meaningful genealogical connections. Typically, mtDNA can show that your female line ancestor was European, or Asian, a couple of thousand years ago. Depending on the situation, it can also help to confirm/refute a connection if you are comparing results with someone that has a solid paper trail. Hope you decide to dip into your gene pool! Hello I am looking for information on my 4th great grandfather Edmond (maybe Edward )Moore who was baptised 8 April 1829 in the Roman Catholic Parish of Castleisland, Meenleitrim South Kerry. His parents were Nicholas Moore ( born about 1798) Margaret Toumey ( born about 1800) both from Kerry. I believe that he had a sister named Margaret but have not been able to find any information on her or her mother. Edmond Moore along with Timothy Sheehan was convicted of murdering Denis LeHane on 19 July 1852 in Kerry. Edmond was transported to Hobart Tasmania on 24 November 1852 on the ship Rodney 3 from either Cork or Queenstown and arrived in Hobart 12 February 1853. Timothy Sheehan was hung for the offence. I am currently visiting Co Kerry and will be here until early October and will be visiting Meenleitrim to see if I can find any additional information but if you know anything regarding Edmond and can let me know that would be most appreciated. Thank you Jen Drewitt
Re: DNa Testing I used the family DNA testing offered by Ancestry. They supplied me with my ethnicity but used the information from my family tree to pinpoint where my ancestors lived. They also gave me a lot of matches - none of which contained any of my family names. In a lot of the matches, you could not see their family names as they were private. They gave you their E Mail addresses to contact them. I found it to be a waste of time.
Can anyone tell me what you get back in this DNA? Do they tell you where your ancestors came from? How do you find other relatives? I would like to try this but a few people told me it's not worth it. Hello I've had both YDNA and MTDNA done by Ancestry in the past. I've been considering having the autosomal test done by FTDNA. Also, I've been reading about their MTDNA test. Hello Barbara, Seems there is a problem with the National Archives site also, at least there is with both at my end. I would guess that if they don't know they will know tomorrow morning.
